B-53 Maverick

780 TexJohnston  6.3 years ago

Basically a B-36 with canards, tip tanks, and a slightly higher top speed, the B-53 was designed as a direct competitor to Convair's giant bomber in the immediate aftermath of WWII. Because the Maverick has almost 11,000 fewer piston-engine horsepower than the B-36, it's been forced to compensate with two more gas guzzling jet engines, making for a slightly shorter range.
