M880 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle

147k Pilotmario  7.6 years ago

The M880 HMMWV is a Paternian light utility vehicle designed to replace the aging M108 Jeep and the Cedco M8 Commercial Utility Cargo Vehile (CUCV). While all machines remain in service, the M910 has replaced both in most roles; the M108 seeing very limited use in Scout Ranger operations, and the M8 CUCV employed in internal areas and the National Gendarmie. The vehicle can be fitted with armor and doors to function as a reconnaissance vehicle, although this example lacks both. In addition, it can be fitted with a 7.62mm machine gun, 12.7mm machine gun, or automatic grenade launcher, complete with gun shield, as seen here. In addition, it can be customized into a variety of different machines, such as field ambulance, command, SPAA, TOW platform, and armored car. It is also the prime mover for the 105mm M305 howitzer, 120mm M342 mortar, and 155mm M440 howitzer.

    @Planefun Indeed. The humble private is the basis of the army.

    He does the digging, fighting, and cleaning.

    My apologies if I offended you.

    @Planefun Of course.

    Those are the officers. Well, supposed to be.

    But as we all know, things aren't always the way they're supposed to be.

    @Planefun I see.

    But saying "Humvee" or "Hummer" is still a lot easier than "High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle."

    I should note that a lot of the techniques of my builds come from others, yourself included.

    In your case, it's shipbuilding. If I don't know how to do something, I seek the best and fit the best of the best into my build. @EternalDarkness

    @EternalDarkness Although expect to see many successors of this thing, given the number of Humvee variants around (way too many to keep track).

    @Pilotmario you made this all by yourself? If yes, make less successors and more originals.

    @melojam It's a Humvee.

    The name "Humvee" comes from the name High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV. Of course, soldiers are simple folk, and that's a handful to say even to an educated man.

    So the acronym "HMMWV" turned into "Humvee" or "Hummer".

    Both names are used by US troops in general interchangeably.

    Still it's not a Humvee?
