Basics
It's simple. You can't use wheels or pistons (oof, rip your car. Instant torque). You can use hinges, if that helps. I recommend using infinite rotators (the one provided is infinite), because... they're infinite.

But how hard is it to use a rotator?

The rotator instant-start things, which is actually bad
And they are not infinite still, it is just a very high rotation number. (maybe?)
So when say it rotated 10 times when you throttle up it will rotate 10 times backward when you try to brake.
That is why my Sphero use direct-driven piston engines.
It DO provide good torque...
But NOW, you have gun engines coming up. Hmmm...
