The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is a twin-engine passenger aircraft built by McDonnell Douglas. The first MD-80 flight took place on October 18, 1979. The MD 80 Series is the new generation of the company's older McDonnell Douglas DC-9 aircraft. These aircraft are very similar to the Boeing MD-90 family. For this reason, they are also called DC-9 Super 80.
