F-28A Kingsnake
The F-28A Kingsnake is a 5th generation, twin-engine, single-seat, very low observable fighter aircraft.
Gallery:
Features:
- Realistic afterburner (engages at 95% throttle, increases thrust, greatly increases fuel consumption)
- Working internal weapons bays
- XML edited weapon performance
Nonstandard Controls:
- AG8 to turn off external lights
- AG2 to open main weapons bay and arm AIM-260B missiles
- AG1 to open side weapon bays and arm AIM-9X missiles
- VTOL will raise and lower the flaps
Notes:
- This design is based on the F/A-181 Black Wasp II from Arma 3, which is itself based on the F-22, F/A-18E, and F-35. I’ve made a few changes though: different nose section, lack of carrier capability, different weapons bay setup, and other minor adjustments.
- Recommend flying using mouse-as-joystick rather than with the keyboard.
- This aircraft is inherently unstable. This greatly enhances its maneuverability, but means that you’ll have to actively trim it for level flight.
- This aircraft is not mirror friendly. If you want to change the weapons, do so manually.
- I actually made much of this aircraft before my previous upload, but using knowledge gained on that project, was able to go back and upgrade this one.
Background:
The F-28A Kingsnake was designed with one purpose in mind: aerial dominance. To accomplish this, it must be able to not only survive, but thrive in contested airspace. To that end, every aspect of the aircraft is designed to reduce its radar cross section. The F-28A makes extensive use of stealth design features, including s-ducts, planform alignment, chines, internal weapons, sawtoothed panel edges, and radar absorbent material coating.
The F-28A is completely unable to mount any kind of external weapons, and its internal bays are too small for most air-to-ground weapons. Furthermore, it is unable to operate from aircraft carriers. However, by not making concessions for these features, the F-28A saves on weight and is even more capable in its intended role. The Kingsnake’s mission is narrow in scope, but it excels in that niche.
The kinematics of the Kingsnake are thoroughly impressive. It has an exceptional instantaneous and sustained turning speed, making it a force to be reckoned with in BFM. The aircraft is also capable of supercruise, even at sea level. Drawbacks of the aircraft include limited fuel (requiring sparing use of afterburner) and less payload capacity than some of its contemporaries.
The high cost of the F-28A meant that it was produced in only limited numbers. After its limited production run, there was a need for a lower cost aircraft with at least some of the same capabilities. This would later lead to the creation of the F-36A Silent Dragon, among others.
