The Ki-79 was an advanced trainer developed from the Ki-27, by an Manchurian aircraft company (Subservant to the IJAAF). The aircraft was simplified, and remounted Hitachi Ha-13a engines. The armament was cut down to only one machine gun.

The Ki-79 was Manshu’s first mass produced aircraft, and the second independently designed. The other notable effort was the Ki-98, an advanced twin boom interceptor that didn’t go beyond prototype.

Soviet occupation saw the end of the company. Later on however, Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Company redeveloped on the site, and became one of the major aircraft manufacturers in the PRC.
