The Wreck of the HMCS Tidal

34.3k Graingy  11 days ago

On the eve of June came a gale. The air ran to the scarce warmth of the heavens with chilling desperation. The sea danced along to the chaotic tempo of lightning, their flickering light cleaving the dark only long enough for fleeting glances at the dramatic bombardment of rain far below before blinking out once more.

Amongst the breaking and clashing of fluid cliffs, trapped, caught in the war the depths waged upon itself, was the aged and worn hull of the HMCS Tidal. The cruiser had been delt a hand of battery and torn fixtures in its aimless roaming, and its voyages in search of new purpose looked to be rapidly approaching their frigid conclusion.

The Tidal steamed against the endless blows of water, its feeble steam engines struggling to keep the naturally overloaded vessel fighting. A rudder was broken when it was lifted from the water and slammed a moment after by vengeful currents. The radio equipment had been all but stripped, and the lights shorted with few exceptions. Rapidly being ripped weld from weld, the ocean could nearly be mistaken for tiring in its torment of the Tidal as in a slow heave from trough to crest it lifted the ship upon a swell of epic proportions. From out the blinding rain and the dark, emerging from the sea like a masonry crucifix awaiting its condemned deity, shot up a jagged spike of seaworn stone.

No mercy of gods, lords, of angels or great men showed its face when the veteran ship crashed in a cacophonous rending of steel atop the waiting spires. The Tidal met doom not in the shadowy depths but exposed, held aloft in ironic punishment for the sin of intruding into the great display of oceanic might.

Cowering in damp passageways, the crew was graced with miraculous survival, but the ship itself was firmly lodged. Its untimely demise was all too convenient for its undesiring owner.

The ship was lost. It was declared so.

Warning: for some reason the game doesn’t like this thing. Frame rate isn’t terrible, but it can cause crashes sometimes. Likely to do with the rock’s mass and/or drag in some fashion.

@Randomplayer You're going back in the brig.
We use mostly SOD by the way. Soian Dollars. Roughly equivalent in value to CAD, though closely dependent on the success of Graingy seeing as we're basically the sole major organization to actually use it. Soia-proper doesn't really use money internally.

@Ashdenpaw1 Actually it would float, however it would first need to actually be in the water to do that.

@Graingy interesting backstory... anyways, do you still atleast have the original file for just the rock only?

@126 yeah. Thing is that it was supposed to stay still. This was originally made to be a challenge, to pull the sword from the stone. Of course, the rock would have to be virtually stationary for that to work. I found it was technically unfeasible to pull the ship off, if not impossible, so I gave up on it. Figured I might as well post it as a sculpture, and that took until now to actually happen.

@Graingy probably, actually, i think that's very likely why your game is having issues loading this thing, the only difference is that my game crashed completely.

@126 oh, yeah, this thing gives me issues to. Loading the file, switching back to SP’s screen, spawning. I don’t know what it does that. Drag and mass, maybe? It’s weird. I suspect it’s something to do with the rock.
