Used in WWII by the Japanese for kamikaze missions, the Ohka rocket plane was strapped underneath a bomber, flown near the target, and then dropped at an altitude around 20,000 feet. They would glide towards the target, and then ignite the three solid rocket boosters to propell them forward, faster than allied aircraft, and finally they would hit their target.
