Sukhoi Su-33 Flanker D
DESCRIPION:
The Sukhoi Su-33 NATO designation Flanker-D is an all weather embarked air defense fighter designed in the 1980s by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by KnAAPO. It is an aircraft derived from the Su-27 "Flanker" and was initially known as the Su-27K. It was used in operations for the first time in 1995, aboard the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier. It officially entered service in August 1998 and it was at that time that it was renamed the Su-33. After the dissolution of the USSR and the consequent cuts in the Russian Navy, only around 24 copies of the Su-33 were manufactured. Attempts to export it to China and India failed, as it was a very expensive aircraft with a very specific function, defending an entire naval fleet with aerial combat against other attack aircraft, far from the defended places.
