Viking Skeid

Skeids or Dragonboats were the biggest ships of the Vikings in the 8th and 9th century. They were Vessels of 50m length and some are told to have been even bigger. They were the ships of kings and were named after the carved figurines of dragons and horses and other animals on the stevens.

This replica is one of it's kind for me. The anmount of details is on a completely new level for me, especially the complete rigg except for all ropes required to operate the sails and the hull being built out of individual planks to have those overlapping planks. The longboats of that time were actually build that way because there was no other way of sealing the gaps between the planks.

This replica is also special because it introduces fully operatable sails. The more throttle you give, the more does the sail unfold and you can turn it into the non-existing wind with VTOL. Topspeed is not fast but more or less realistic (keep in mind, that this is bigger than 1:1 Scale). You also get a camera of the lookout. Additionally I have never spent even remotely as much time on a creation as I have on this.

@BirdOfSteel Klampnägel funktionieren, wie normale Klampen. Man belegt daran Seile.

@SteadfastContracting Most of the parts are in the shields (about 400), in the stevens (150 each) and the sail mechanisms (400)

@Johndfg it works marvellously, I even found a way to fix the speedboat behaviour of the bow coming out of the water ^^

This is amazing! Sadly, it's too many parts for even my desktop to run smooth enough to play.
