F-14A Tomcat IRIAF
Have you ever just made a movie on SimplePlanes and then regretted making it like a week later? Anyways here's a cat
Description
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a variable sweep wing carrier based air superiority fighter, developed and built for the US Navy, the F-14 first took flight on 21 December 1970 and started service with the US Navy's VF-1 "Wolfpack" and VF-2 "Bounty Hunters" in September 1974. The F-14 is a large aircraft optimized for long range and loitering times, it was powered by two PW TF-30 engines for the A version initially but this was later replaced with the GE F110 engines, this abled the aircraft to go up to mach 2+ and a combat range of 930km with 7,348kg of fuel. The F-14 is equipped with the Hughes AN/AWG-9 X-band radar that can detect targets up to 230km away, track 24 targets simultaneously, and engage 6 in TWS mode using it's large variety of missiles, such as the AiM-54 Phoenix and the AiM-7 Sparrow, for close ranges it had the AiM-9 Sidewinder and the M61A1 20mm vulcan cannon. The F-14 complements a crew of two, a pilot and a radio intercept officer, also known as a RIO.
Iran received 79 Tomcats before the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and it went on to fight in the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, Iranian F-14s would down numerous Iraqi fighter aircraft, such as the MiG-21, MiG-23, Mirage F-1, among others, extensively using the AiM-54. However, due to the continuous use of the AiM-54 and the lack of stocks of the missile led to the decrease of the Phoenix's usage, this then led Iran to develop a substitute for the Phoenix, in the form of modifying an I-Hawk Surface-to-Air missile to be carried and launched by the F-14, this convertion project was known as the Sejjil and resulted in the AiM-23B Skyhawk missile, which were successfully adopted onto two Tomcats which used them in combat. However, this project was later abandoned due to guidance issues, lessons learned from this project would later aid in the development of Iran's newest Air-to-Air missile, the Fakour-90. The F-14 still serves with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force to this day.
In this SimplePlanes version, well it was my second replica of the F-14, after the one I did back in 2021, it had a cockpit with some functional buttons, animated nozzles, new simplified afterburner jet, tail hook and catapult launcher, and a blue livery with the appropriate roundels and emblems. It is armed with 2x AiM-9P-5 Sidewinders, 2x AiM-23B Skyhawks, and 4x AiM-7E-4 Sparrows, as well as the 20mm M61 cannon, it also comes with 60x flares and chaffs. Overall, it is a neat little replica of Iran's F-14, as usual, like, comment for the algorithm, subscribe, and I hope you enjoy.
