Famous as the world's first all metal production fighter, The junkers D.I began development in 1917. It initially failed to impress German officials, but by mid 1918, monoplane aircraft were beginning to reappear, and it appeared that metal aircraft would be the next development in aviation. It was approved for production, and while the first examples made it to the front in October 1918, they failed to make an impact.
