The Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 is a fifth-generation multirole fighter aircraft developed by Northrop Grumman and McDonnell Douglas. In total, two copies were built that received their names because of the color - "Black Widow II" (Eng. Black Widow II, painted black) and "Grey Ghost" (Eng. Gray Ghost, painted gray), however, both aircraft better known as Black Widow II. The YF-23 prototype lost out in the YF-22 competition, which entered service with the US Air Force in 2005.
