With the development of the JAC Python Class, MAE faced a slew of clients seeking an appropriate response. The result was a comprehensive upgrade to the Leopard Type, resulting in the redoubtable Lion Type of Panther Class Destroyers. Although the overhaul seemingly reduced the type's dual-purpose gun turrets from triple mounts to double mounts, the completely redesigned naval guns were significantly more effective and had a much increased ammunition load. Similarly, while the vessel carried fewer Cleaver cruise missiles, the vertical launch system had been redesigned to fix certain flaws discovered during the Leopard Type's operational life.

As well as an overhaul of the class' weapons systems, MAE introduced a triple turbine vectored thrust system, vastly enhancing the type's manoeuvrability. The resulting destroyer was an immediate success - heavily armed and capable of meeting any threat, MAE's customers could no longer complain that they had no viable response to the scourge of Python Class destroyers.
