Bell OH-58 Kiowa
WIKI
The Bell OH-58 Kiowa Helicopter is a helicopter built by Bell Helicopter Textron. The Bell OH-58's primary missions are reconnaissance, surveillance and intelligence gathering. The United States Army has several models of this helicopter that, together with the Australian Navy and Army, have been deployed in operations from the Vietnam War to the conflicts in Iraq (2006).
The US Army retired the Bell OH-58 Kiowa Warrior in 2017.
The Bell OH-58B was an export version for the Australian Army, and the Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior was equipped with laser targeting and designation capability. This last model can operate day or night with adverse weather conditions.
During Operation Prime Chance, the escort of oil tankers during the Iran-Iraq War, OH-58Ds were refitted with air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons.
Following US Army designations for helicopters, the Kiowa is named after the native Kiowa tribe.
