The M16A1. A classic Vietnam-era rifle. The original M16 was plagued with issues, and the Army sought to remedy the problem. The solutions done to the rifle were made in the M16A1. Featuring a chrome-lined bore, forward assist, cleaning kits, a revised birdcage flash hider, and on-spec ammunition, the M16A1 quickly became a favorite in the jungles of Vietnam for all who carried one. It was light, accurate, powerful, and reliable. A space-age rifle for the future of warfare. The M16A1 would remain in US service until 1986, when it was replaced by the improved M16A2.
