In 2021, G Aviation Command held a census to all military staff associated with military aviation operations (carrier deck crew, pilots, Command staff, ground crew etc.), asking 30 questions about military aviation wants and needs. Of the 50,000,000 crew involved, the vast majority wanted a new series of aircraft, a major revamp to aircraft carriers, facilities and ground support, command, debrief and refuelling. G Aviation Command split the request into 2 projects and took them to High Command. A month later, High Command agreed, and gave £47,000,000,000,000 to each project. Ninety-Four Billion Pounds for everything. They could revamp it 3 times over and still have more then half of the initial money.
Aviation Command worked with the G Defence Force (GDF) and built 40,000 new airbases, all of which and the rest could hold AT LEAST 1,000 military aircraft, 500 support aircraft, 100 supply aircraft, 500 military helicopters, 250 support helicopters, and 100 supply helicopters and 100 troop helicopters. They also added a new or upgraded 12-storey air traffic control building and 15 separate personnel buildings, which could each hold 180 personnel. 10 separate barracks for the pilots and co-pilots and 5 spares for any troops in transit stopping by. That’s capacity for 5,400 personnel on site. In addition they got 25,000,000 million extra jobs and bought stashes of new planes and ordnance for backup.
The other request and consequently project was a new series of aircraft to fly for the next 30 years. It was a large ask, and Aviation Command was unsure about the success of this ambitious plan. High Command and the GDF had a secret conference and had a look at the money left - £80,000,000,000 - and decided that they’d give it a go. 2 weeks later High Command held a press conference about what they wanted. Broadly a high Alpha multirole fighter and a competitor to the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E Super-Hornet.
Skylark Aerospace had been quietly watching the growing storm as G was plunged into a harsh winter while fighting in the 2nd Suez Crisis. After the success of the NB-SGM-1 Lander missile, the D-1A Widow UCAV and the T-2A Goliath II, they had been hiding in the shadows for a few months. In this time they built 67 new 3km x 5km state-of-the-art super-factories - the largest in the world. They decided they would have a go at the project but not take it too seriously.
So they did. And it went pretty well. A respectable aircraft with potential. Before they took it to High Command though, they took a look at what Diamond Day institute where building. They took one look at it, thought it was rubbish and badly designed - which it was - but fit for purpose.
High Command wanted first a 4.5 generation, twin-engine, 1-2 seater, Mach 1.5+ capable, multirole, twin-tail, carrier adaptable, afterburner, super-cruising, 65 degree+ AoA (high-Alpha) medium fighter-bomber.
Skylark Aerospace had the makings of a 5th Generation Fighter, but not what High Command wanted. So they scrapped the first design and make a new one. And it was perfect. A sturdy competitor to the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E Super-Hornet. So they gave it to High Command. And it was commissioned. Skylark went back and gave it the finishing touches (ordnance, military cockpits, ejector seats, etc.) and gave it back. High Command, the GDF, and Aviation Command took it gratefully and tested it.
It was the perfect fighter and Skylark were given some extra money to adapt it into 8 different variants. These were: Standard, Interceptor, Close Air support, Ground Attack, Reconnaissance 1, Reconnaissance 2 (Recon 1 but equipped with a big Standoff Missile), Special Mission, and Special Mission Carrier Variant.
All of these aircraft could be flown with only the pilot, and the R.I.O was optional. The reconnaissance type only came with two seats along with Close Air Support and Ground Attack.
Another plan was commissioned for two more aircraft u dear the same project name. These were: C-16 Terror (5+ gen, ultra-role) and the C-17 Wasp II (6+ gen, ultra-role, super fighter).
