Description

The MiG-21 is an aircraft that needs no introduction, as it stands as the most produced supersonic aircraft in history, it is a single seat single engine fighter-interceptor of the Soviet Union. Its long cylindrical body with delta wings and swept back tail section gave it a speed of up to 2,175 km/h (1,385 mph) or just over Mach 2, and a service ceiling of 19,000 m (62,335 ft). The MiG-21F is powered by a Tumansky R11F-300 turbojet engine, giving the plane a power-to-weight ratio of 0.69 and with a wing loading of 315 kg/m² (211 lb/ft²), this however also meant that the plane has rather low agility and poor manueverability, thus, the plane's main tactics against enemy aircraft are boom-and-zoom and hit-and-run, utilizing it's arsenal of two R-3S air-to-air missile or its single 30mm NR-30 cannon, in addition it could also carry bombs and unguided rockets, such as the FAB-500M or the S-5K in the UB-16-57 rocket pod. The aircraft (in many variations) saw service in many conflicts and nations throughout the cold war and the present day, ranging from Vietnam, to the Arab-Israeli Wars, and to the India-Pakistani conflicts, Indonesia acquired 22 MiG-21F-13s and MiG-21Us in 1962 in preparation for Operation Trikora, they would not get to participate in any action however, as the 30th September movement cuts any ties with the Eastern Bloc, stopping the supplies of spare parts for many of the Soviet made aircraft. After just 8 years of service with the Indonesian Air Force, the MiG-21s made its farewell flight over Jakarta in 1970.

In this SimplePlanes version, this is the fourth plane to be uploaded for the Independence Day series, compared to the one shown in the video, this one has custom airbrakes, lights, and slightly more details, there is still no proper interior for the cockpit similar to my P-51, however just like the MiG-17 I've added a crude HUD just so it wouldn't look as empty. Performance wise I think it's a bit too fast and quite difficult to land smoothly, the flaps pitched the plane down and it's stall speed is quite high, but regardless I think its an overall fine plane to fly and do dogfights in, though be aware that the missiles probably wouldn't hit anything.
