The Douglaston F-44 is a single engine, ww2 fighter produced in 1944-1945. 4400 copies of the aircraft were built and it was an overall success. The bloody ambushers is a squadron of 20-40 of them. The planes flied 100 feet above and, when they saw the enemy, the climbed steeply, and shot them down. Some of the planes were equipped with torpedoes like this one.
