History: The Fairchild-Republic XP-456A was designed in 1946 to serve in the attack aircraft role. It featured two contra-rotating propellers. It sat a crew of two (pilot and weapons officer) in a rather large cockpit. It also featured ejector seats. It saw very limited use in the early stages of the Korean War and was quickly pulled from the USAF. For some unknown reason, the pilots who flew it nicknamed the aircraft the "Wombat".
