Karlsson is a famous character invenfted by Astrid Lindgren and appeared in three of her books for children. A young man in his best years with an engine in his stomach lives on a roof, eating jam and tricking people. His best friend is the Little Brother, a kid from the same house.
The character became more popular after a Soviet animated film and a later Swedish film in 2003. In foremer Union countries Karlsson is well-known, some of the phrases in the books and cartoons are now aforysms.
