Short Information

The Matsuzaka Ma-186 is a development of the Ma-162 delta-wing fi. The 186 is a twin-seat strike fighter contrary to the 162's air superiority role. One of the notable changes to the 186 is upgraded avionics, reinforced and redesigned main landing gear, a more powerful and efficient engine of choice (either the F404 or the TF30), and lesser maintenance costs.

The 186 program took place when the Fabellan and Arsean Air Forces and wanted to focus more on strike missions. Matsuzaka began to reuse the 162 airframe but considering the maintenance costs and its factors, some things are to be adjusted. New engines were being introduced during its development, as well as new avionics for consistent upgrades and compatibility.

Considering costs to maintain the aircraft in export countries, the 186 is only offered to few air forces only limited to strike missions.
