Arbus 106, Wright Airways Flight 895
On the 9th of September, 1957, a Wright Airways 895 was underway between Wright and Bandit Airports, but disaster was brewing.
As a storm that developed over Snowstone headed to Krakabloa, the pilot recorded unideal weather for landing. As the storm encroached, the sky clouded over, and thunder began to rip through the air, the unbelievable happened.
Thunder struck the wing, setting it ablaze. Fuel was no longer reaching the left propeller, causing it to stall. As the fire spread, the plane descended for an emergency landing. But due to the stress...
The burning wing broke off.
At this point, nothing could be done to save the plane, it was tumbling to its demise, there was only the choice to wait for it to crash.
This is an image of the plane directly after crashing. In the end, there would be no survivors. A scattered few could have been saved if rescue came faster, but when they did arrive, there were only bodies.
This is an image taken of the site today, the rubble was not cleared as to not disturb a mass grave. This horrid tragedy was one of the main reasons the Arbus 106 was retired.
