this aircraft was built due to the deployment of the B-29 Superfortess' and thier attacks on mainland Japan, it used earler research of super charging a radial engine, though this reseach culminated into the Tachikawa Ki-94-1, the Ki-87 was developed as a fall back project, 3 protoypes were going to built but problems with the electrically powered under carriage and the turbo-supercharger delayed it, though evetually 5 test flights were made all with the under carriage extended, the war ended before the Ki-87 could be put into production with only one protoype completed
