Helicopter challenge!!!
First of all want to say sorry Teus, i stole your sample:-)
I have built good stable and easy to control helicopter engine, and decided to share it to everyone in such way. I propose you to build a helicopter. What it will look like, Its only your choice. Engine will help you all to concentrate on heli design and its details. But if you want you can build your own engine.
This is isane challenge because of main rule, it must fly.
All successors get 5 star from me.
How to start:
1. Download the file and use cockpit from it as start for your heli.
2. Build your heli (you can use engine from this file if you want).
3. Upload it until next sunday(05.04.15).
Rules:
1. It must be helicopter! (No tricopters or quadrocopters)
2. You can upload only one heli.
3. You can use bug with detached engines and fuel.
4. It must fly. Easier control - better.
5. Use less than 800 blocks.
How to control engine:
1. You have to put at least 1 vtol engine for it.
2. Launch engine, put thrust on max or less.
3. Use VTOL toggle to climb up or down.
4. You dont need to shut down engines for land, just put vtol toggle in the midle or lower and heli will gently touch the ground. Then shut down engines:)
5. If your heli well balanced, even when you run out of fuel your heli will land successfully on water. On ground it will crash, but you can try to make it strong:-)
6. You can test how engine works on sample-heli in this file.
GOOD LUCK ALL. Best 3 Heli will get a lot of ratings on their other planes!!

50.4k StingrayI just submitted Pelican Waterbird IV, built from scratch, using @Teus 7,000 lb rotors. @Intencer @maverickvii @Verdnan9.7 years ago

5,548 Intencer@verdnan, @stingray, @maverickvii . If you are interested, look PLS on my helicopter.9.7 years ago

5,521 Verdnan@Stingray indeed. Let's just hope the devs take note of their growning community people attempting these contraptions.9.7 years ago
-
50.4k StingrayAgree with you. However, I meant forward thrust not vertical. Even "good piloting" will get you just a few feet off the ground before SP dynamics override stable, forward motion. @Verdnan9.7 years ago
-
5,521 Verdnan@Stingray not true forward trust comes down to how fast you can spin the rotors. As well as how much drag the rotors make vs lift/thrust. You don't need a swashplate for that. And instead of swashpates the devs should give us pistons and ball joints. Then we could build are own and a host of other devises. Even so we are still missing certain physics in SP to make a true simulated helicopters.9.7 years ago
-
50.4k StingrayHey folks, IMHO rotor lift is required! But due to lack of swashplates in gizmos, some forward thrust is always needed in SP models currently. I've already posted too many chopper birds to enter this contest; all the six star ratings go to photogenic models NOT TO WORKING MODELS so, best of luck!9.7 years ago
-
5,548 Intencer@maverickvii , there is big difference between your chopper and what I propose. My engine produces lift power based on rotation. Yours lifts up because of reactive thrust.9.7 years ago

39.6k maverickvii@Intencer Can't enter it here because it's in another challenge but If you like choppers take a look at this https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/9wHkVI/Piasecki-X-49a9.7 years ago

5,548 Intencer@Verdnan nope, only new model. Modded parts yes. Rate it, because people will not see this9.7 years ago

5,521 VerdnanCan we use or change existing models? And can we use modded parts?9.7 years ago
