KRI Oswald Siahaan
History
KRI Oswald Siahaan (354) is the fourth ship of the Indonesian Navy 's Ahmad Yani Class Missile Destroyer Class warship . Named after Oswald Siahaan , a member of the Indonesian Navy who died during the Sibolga Bay battle .
KRI Oswald Siahaan is a frigate used by the Dutch Navy (HMNLS Van Nes F805) which was later purchased by Indonesia . She is a close sister of the British frigate HMS Leander with slight modifications to the original RN Leander design. Built in 1967 by the Nederlandse Dok en Scheepsbouw Mij, Amsterdam, Netherlands and received increased capabilities before changing hands to the Indonesian Navy in 1977-1980. This includes the installation of the Mistral Surface to Air Missile (SAM ) anti-aircraft missile defense system to replace the Sea Cat. In 2010, the missile weapons were replaced, which originally used 8x Harpoon McDonnel Douglas missiles made in the USA, replaced with 4x P-800 Oniks Yakhont missiles made in Russia. This replacement was carried out by PT PAL.
Serving as a patrol fleet as well as a strike fleet with anti-surface, anti-submarine and anti-aircraft capabilities.
Included in the Ahmad Yani class with KRI Oswald Siahaan include KRI Ahmad Yani (351), KRI Slamet Riyadi (352), KRI Yos Sudarso (353) KRI Abdul Halim Perdana Kusuma (355) and KRI Karel Satsuit Tubun (356).
