Variable-geometry aircraft with a cruise speed ranging from 360 mph to 1300 mph near sea level. As long as you keep the throttle at 100% and use only the VTOL slider, this aircraft maintains perfect trim at any speed.
This build is also completely collision-proof. Its guns are powerful enough to take down any target in the game, except bridges, which can be destroyed by simply ramming them.
Controls
- All flight controls are normal.
- VTOL up: high-speed configuration.
- LandingGear: engage hover mode (only available under 200 mph).
- While in hover mode, use pitch to ascend/descend.
- FireGuns: fire plasma cannons.

Thanks, @ChisP
Wow the end results are pretty cool btw 👍🏻@SledDriver
@ChisP Well, I write some code for this stuff very frequently, at least a couple of days a week. So it's hard to say how long any one thing took.
@SledDriver wow how long does it take you to do stuff like this
@ChisP Oh ok, the timing of your comment left me confused and I thought I was still talking to Panzer828. Each flexible shape is made out of a bunch of airbrakes, with their inputs and positions set so that when they open, they form the final extended shape.
@SledDriver I’ll try and check it out, see ya later!
@Panzer828 Feynman is about as boring as the center of the sun is cold. If you like reading, start with "Surely you're joking." Otherwise check out some videos on YouTube.
I'm signing off now, but will be back tomorrow.
@SledDriver no I haven’t but yay more homework lol.
@Panzer828 The more complicated it is, the more valuable it'll be when you finally get your head around it. Keep up the good work, the world needs engineers.
Thermodynamics can be confusing, but wait till you get to quantum mechanics. Have you read anything by or about Richard Feynman?
@SledDriver yup tryna figure out how airplanes are made and how they fly. It’s very complicated along with thermodynamics which I love to hate.
@Panzer828 Yeah, it has to run on those abysmal devices called "mobiles," after all.
Engineering is always good. Aeronautics?
@SledDriver no but I’m taking classes to become an engineer. Turns out simple planes doesn’t really care about wing shape
@Panzer828 Ah yes, that's the first time I've heard mention of Boyd's E-M theory on SP. Are you a pilot?
@SledDriver MER is Maneuvering energy retention.. basically when you turn your plane how much speed you lose. The less the amount the better.
@Panzer828 Yeah, Tu is for Tupolev :)
I just checked out your plane, it handles pretty well. You've clearly got a pretty good grasp of flight handling. What's MER, by the way?
@SledDriver I personally like the Tu... does that possibly stand for tupolev? And I was just waiting for your craft to see what you come up with I’m really excited. Especially since only one person made anything which was really awesome I made something too but I’m not gonna count it since I made it.
@Panzer828 Oh, the interceptor challenge. As I said, I'm not gonna enter. I will post a build that meets the specs I outlined, though. I've just been busy with other stuff (like this build).
If you want more realistic examples of variable-geometry aircraft I have the Tu-22 Backfire and the Panavia Tornado.
@SledDriver interceptor thing.
@SledDriver I wasn't talking about the challenge I was asking how you were able to do the geometry
@ChisP Er, I don't do challenges. I wasn't even aware there was a variable-geometry challenge on.
@SledDriver the flexible shape
@Panzer828 Er, what challenge?
@SledDriver until the challenge is over, also yes that is variable wing, but it really isn’t like the f14 or f111 or anything that closes to reduce drag and increase top speed. I also had an idea if you wanna hop on the bandwagon.. you make a mother ship controlled by VTOL and trim.. and then a parasite fighter controlled normally. And a tip if you wanna do it. Parasite fighter comes first.
@Panzer828 I've made variable-geometry aircraft before, most recently this one. But yeah, your comment definitely had some input.
I plan to make a more conventional airplane with the same technique, I just need to refine it a bit more first.
Also, 4 more days until...?
@SledDriver first a question, Did you get the idea based on our little conversation? Anyways dude it’s awesome never thought of a variable geometry flying wing. With the rudder too. As usual it’s over powered for simple planes. You some how took the plane part out too more like just “simple flying shapes that shoot and squish” also 4 more days!
