1945-50 Naval aviation challenge

TLDR
Build an aircraft in use from 1945-1950 for any navy. Can be fictional or replica. You get upvotes depending on how many criteria points you get as well as your overall ranking.

The top three builds are:

1. SimplyPlain’s Martin Mauler with 64 points

2. Tang0five’s B’BURN B.46 “Firebrand” TF Mk.5 with 63 points

3. RamboJutter’s RJ SeaCommander F2 with 62 points

The challenge is now closed and the results are on a forum post

Welcome to the 1945-1950 Naval Aviation Challenge! This is my first challenge so I hope you all enjoy it.

The goal is to make a naval aircraft which can take off and land on a ship or water. This means that amphibious aircraft, flying boats, and helicopters are also allowed. However, the aircraft should look and perform as if they were in naval service during the years 1945 until 1950.

To take part in this challenge, you must have your build be a successor. Your build may not have fire and forget air to air missiles (so only guardians!) but is allowed to have guided torpedos and bombs. Mods are not allowed but XML modifications are allowed and encouraged!

Your uploads can be either real or fictional, but the fictional aircraft should look like it was an aircraft that would have been used during this time. If the aircraft is a replica, it needs to be one that was used by a naval power during the years 1945-1950. It is also possible to modify real aircraft into naval versions which can take off and land on an aircraft carrier. Players are allowed to create three entries. The first of these must be an original creation but the second and third can be re-uploads of previous posts you have made (it has to have been posted by you!)

There are several criteria that will be looked at and these are:
1. Design: 20 points (does it look like a realistic design from the era? Does it look like it would be used by a navy from that time period? If the build is a replica, does it look like the original aircraft?)
2. Functionality: 10 points (does your plane function the way a naval plane of the time would such as having folding wings, the ability to connect to a catapult, takeoff and land on an aircraft carrier with ease)
3. Performance: 15 points (is your plane easy to control, Is it too manoeuvrable? Not manoeuvrable enough? Is it too fast or slow? Does it perform the way an aircraft from the time period would perform?)
4. Build quality: 15 points (is the aircraft detailed? Does it use simple stock or custom wings, landing gear, cockpit etc.? How smooth is the overall design?)
5. Paint scheme: 5 points (does it look good? Did aircraft in use at the time have similar paint jobs? Did you add numbers, art, or insignias?)
6. Personal opinion: 5 points (did I enjoy how it flew or looked?)

This means you can achieve a total of 70 points.

1st place: 20 upvotes
2nd place: 15 upvotes
3rd place: 10 upvotes

This challenge is also going to work a little different than others I have seen on here. For every ten points your aircraft gets, you will receive one upvote. This counts for the first, second, and third place too.

This means that the highest possible score is 27 upvotes!

I will upvote all of your entries as a thank you for participating. I will also post your scores in a comment on your upload and in a separate forum post after I have finished looking at all the entries.

The deadline for this challenge will be 23:59 (ECT) 7 December 2020.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments or in an unlisted version of your post.

Good luck everyone and have fun!

The challenge is now closed. I want to thank everyone who participated as this challenge was a lot of fun to watch grow. I have already almost finished marking all the planes and they were incredibly fun to fly and test out. I will post the scores individually on your own entries and then on a forum post too

His “Martin” mauler is potentially dangerous

It’s a naval strike fighter. Could be fitted with bombs or rockets, but was seen most with a torpedo.

I dont agree with the second place. The Blackburn firebrand was a torpedo bomber not a fighter. THERE IS NO TORPEDO

@Mustang51 Just to clear a doubt up, we've got until January 7 starts or until it ends? I ask because I'm making a third build and now that I fixed some of its problems I need to touch it up and write a description, lol. Not that it'd be a problem if I can't get it finished in time, two submissions is already a lot and frankly more than I was expecting to do.
