MAE Panther Class Destroyer - Tiger Type

495 dazed1  5.0 years ago

While the Lion Type of Panther Class destroyers were as capable a fighting ship as any afloat, MAE's engineers and scientists sought to tip the scales further. After an exhaustive development process, the results were presented in the form of the Cat's Eye MOTHPOD (Manual Over The Horizon Precision Ordnance Drone). Carrying a 500lb warhead as well as a rapid fire rotary cannon, the new weapon system enabled a combatant to engage targets at ranges measured in hundreds of miles, an exponential increase in range over any other weapon system. Furthermore, the drone system was designed with a minimal RADAR signature, resulting in the ability to penetrate enemy airspace with impunity.

To mount the weapon, MAE extended the afterdeck of a Panther Class, Lion Type destroyer, the modification providing space enough for two rail launched MOTHPOD systems. Christening the vessel as the Tiger Type destroyer, the new vessel was snapped up by international buyers despite the expense of the technologically advanced ship.

Weapon Systems:
x12 Vertically Launched Inferno Missiles
x8 Vertically Launched Cleaver Cruise Missiles
x8 Interceptor SAMs
x8 Guardian SAMs
x6 Forward Firing Torpedos
x6 MAE 4RP1RC Dual Purpose Naval Guns in 3 double turrets (guns can fire rapid fire cannon rounds or high explosive munitions)
x2 Rail Launched Cat's Eye MOTHPOD Systems

Controls and Specifications:

Cameras:
Cockpit - Missile guidance RADAR
Camera 1 - Fore Turrets fire control
Camera 2 - Aft Turret fire control
Camera 3 - MOTHPOD 1
Camera 4 - MOTHPOD 2

Control/Activation Groups:
AG 1 - RADAR Dish with VTOL and Trim.
AG 2 - Open/close vertical launch bay doors with VTOL. Raise/lower MOTHPOD Launchers with Trim.
AG 3 - Fore Turrets with VTOL and Trim.
AG 4 - Aft Turrets with VTOL and Trim.
AG 5 - MOTHPOD 1 controlled with thrust and roll.
AG 6 - MOTHPOD 2 controlled with thrust and roll.
AG 8 - Lock/unlock steering and thrust.

Steer with roll. Forward movement with thrust. Reverse by holding brake.

MOTHPOD Launching Instructions:

Lock ship steering and thrust with AG 8 (MOTHPODS can be launched while ship is moving or stationary). Raise MOTHPOD systems fully to launch position by activating AG 2 and using Trim controls. Once MOTHPOD System is in vertical launch position, deactivate AG 2. Increase Thrust to maximum. Activate AG 5 or AG 6 (or both to launch both MOTHPODS in formation). MOTHPODs will launch after a short delay.

Once in the air, MOTHPODs can be controlled with thrust, roll and trim. MOTHPODs can fire rotary cannons and be manually guided into their targets to detonate their warhead. Minimal thrust is required to keep the drone in the air (they will stay in the air even at only 1-2% thrust). Loiter time is determined by ship fuel reserves, resulting in extreme range and loiter duration. It is HIGHLY recommended to deactivate all other AG numbers while operating MOTHPODs, although skilled operators may discover MOTHPODs can be used as superlative gunnery observation units.
