Heinkel He-178
The Heinkel He 178 was a test aircraft of the Ernst Heinkel aircraft works. It was the first aircraft in the world powered by a jet engine. The first flight with a jet drive was carried out on 27 August 1939, a few days before the start of the Second World War, by the test pilot Erich Warsitz in Rostock-Marienehe. It lasted about eight minutes. Although the first flight achieved only relatively low thrust, the He 178 achieved a considerable increase in speed compared to conventional aircraft with piston engines. The Reichsluftfahrtsministerium (RLM), however, had no interest in a serial production of the aircraft, which was already unsuitable because of its limited range for applications, and had already ordered the development of a two-bladed fighter aircraft before the first flight of the He 178 under the designation He 180 (later Heinkel He 280) . After only twelve test flights, the flight tests were stopped. Until the end of the war the plane was in the Rostock plant, where it was destroyed by a bomb attack. A second prototype was still to be completed, but due to the lack of interest in the RLM no longer entered the flight test.A replica of the Heinkel He 178 can be found in the exhibition on the history of aviation in the terminal of the airport Rostock-Laage as well as in the PhanTECHNIKUM Wismar. It is really hard for me to build the chassis so I changed the chassis a bit. I made the camouflage as I found it on pictures of the Heinkel He 178.
