Hermes Fighter
"This machine is the best fighter in the world. Let their foolish arrogance in their faith in the Hawk pay us dividends."
- Sgt. Cleo, fighter ace, 31 kills
Named after the winged messenger of Greek mythology, the Hermes is one of the fastest aircraft employed by the League of Olympia, and is certianly a point of pride. It was faster, smaller, and cheaper aircraft compared to the Hawk. Its only drawback was its short range, due to its small fuel tanks and large engines.
During the Second Olympian War, they were a nasty surprise to the heavier and better armed Hawks. The smaller, faster aircraft painted sky-blue were difficult to detect, and often were detected visually when it was too late. Initially, Hawks were shot down in droves, to the point where the Hermes was dubbed the "Hawk Hunter". The only aircraft which could outrun it was the Dart at high altitudes, and was still being tested. However, the tides changed when the Hawk received the Interceptor missile, which allowed it to engage the Hermes at long range. The poor performance of the Hawk in this conflict was a contriubting factor to rushing devleopment of the Dart and the Renegade and the retirement of the Hawk.
