Crosby CR-4

30.0k Dumpworks  8.8 years ago

This racing aircraft was built to compete in the "Greve races 1938-1939","Thompson Trophy races1938-1939", Gaerial races during the 1930s, but Harry Crosby, the designer, did not have the budget to build the CR-4 so instead students from Curtiss-Wright Technical Institute in Glendale, California assembled the aircraft, one strange feature of the aircraft is that the landing gears are moved by compressed air instead of hydraulic fluid to prevent the landing gear from locking up, but with the onset of WWII Crosby designed the CIP-5 a all wood interceptor based off the CR-4
