F86
The North American F-86 Saber was a jet fighter aircraft manufactured by North American Aviation for the United States Air Force. The F-86 was developed in the late 1940s and is one of the most widely produced combat aircraft, and has been used by air forces in more than 30 countries. The confrontation between the Saber and the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 during the Korean War is one of the most classic in the history of military aviation. The F-86 Saber began as a redesign of the FJ-1 Fury.

Pakistani F-86

n September 1965, when India and Pakistan went to war, a belligerent Pakistan Air Force (PAF) had as many as 120 F86F Sabre fighter aircraft and 14 F104 Starfighters. While the Starfighter was supposedly the better fighter, capable of supersonic high-altitude dashes and armed with a superior armament, the Sabre was more suited to undertake the plethora of missions demanded to target India. The US-supplied Sabre had the best operational record amongst any fighter aircraft across the globe since the end of World War II.

The PAF was on an emotional high on the superiority of its F86F Sabres. Offering the pilot a commanding awareness of the battlefield with a 360-degree view cockpit, the Sabre was equipped with a modern M18 gyro gun sight and armed with six 0.5 inch Browning high power guns with a wide dispersion pattern

During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Alam scored an "ace in a day" on September 7, 1965, with a total of 5 casualties. Over a period of 11 days, he claimed 9 casualties, including 2 probable ones. His actions have placed him at the top of the Hall of Fame list at the Pakistan Air Force Museum (PAF) in Karachi, and he is considered a national hero of Pakistan. During the war, he was posted to Sargodha. He was involved in several dogfights while flying his F-86 Saber fighter, against Hawker Hunter fighters later flown by the Indian Air Force.

According to the PAF, in a single outing on September 7, 1965, Alam shot down five planes with four in less than a minute, setting a world record. Regarding the last four, Alam stated: "Before we had completed more than 270 degrees of turn, at about 12 degrees per second, all four Hunters had been shot down." In 1978, when Alam gave a speech at a university in Karachi said that during the fight he saw a spiritual force coming from heaven.
