P-38 Lightning
The P-38 fighter jet (Lightning) is an American Type 1 interceptor and a subsonic fighter jet. The P-38 fighter is a single seat, double engine, flat wing layout, which has many excellent characteristics, high speed, heavy armor, and powerful firepower. It is also the only fighter that can compete with Japanese zero fighters in the early Pacific War, and it is the model that shot down the most Japanese fighters among American Land Airlines' fighters. The P-38 fighter was developed by the Lockheed Corporation in 1936. It was designed by the legendary Kelly Johnson. It is the first military aircraft developed by the company. On June 23, 1937, the U.S. Army adopted the design of Lockheed Corporation. In January 1939, the XP-38 prototype was delivered for use. Its first flight was successful on January 27. It was commissioned in 1941. It was widely used in the Pacific battlefield, The most famous achievement is shooting down Isoroku Yamamoto's plane over Bougainville Island .
