Sukhoi Su-7BM "Fitter-A"
Intro
Goes together nicely with my Su-17 "Swing-wing" fighter-bomber. Actually I should have built this one first, since it was the Su-17's predecessor. Ah well.
Once again a "bare" Soviet version; for desert scenarios, you can also use the Syrian air force version... they got 25 of these from the Soviets in 1967, but lost them all in the 1973 Yom Kippur war. Guess they were doing something wrong...
History
The Sukhoi Su-7 (NATO codename of "Fitter-A") was a single-seat, single engine jet-powered fighter in service with the Soviet Air Force (Frontal Aviation) throughout the 1960s. It was a nuclear-capable aircraft that went on to be a successful ground-attack fighter (noted for its ability to withstand large amounts of combat damage and still fly), seeing extensive combat actions particularly in the Middle East and in Southern Asia. The type was delivered to Warsaw Pact nations as well as trusted Third World allies and, today, few are in service with any air force. Despite its speed, bombing accuracy and battlefield robustness, the Su-7's powerplant proved exceedingly thirsty, limiting its tactical usefulness to its meager combat radius of several hundred miles (which is why the build comes equipped with extra fuel in drop tanks). The aircraft went on to be produced in at least ten known major variants that also included a two-seat trainer and appeared in approximately 1,847 total production examples from 1957 to 1972.
Armament
This example of the "Fitter-A" comes equipped with;
- 2x Nudelman-Rikhter NR-30 autocannon in the wing roots
- 8x FAB-250 bombs on MER's
- SPPU-22 gun pod with GSh-23 twin-barrel autocannon
- UB-16-57 rocket launcher
The SPPU-22 pod is very suitable for strafing runs, since the guns can be angled down (press AG3).
Controls
AG1 : Drag chutes
AG2 : Air brakes
AG3 : Angle down the gun pod's barrels 30 degrees
AG4 : Dump the drop tanks
enjoy!

@ChiChiWerx haha... well, nobody seems to like these old Soviet stovepipes much ;) no worries. Already cooking up my own Su-11...
Only 36 upvotes thus far? That’s a crime!
Love your builds!
@MrACEpilot no need -just download, when you get the error hit undo and then redo, the plan will load without the mod.
amazing work, looks & feels great to fly. thnx
@SimplyPlain the nose intake and the elevator i guess? That is my reaction when i see a su 7
@SimplyPlain Sure, I prefer a Mirage III or an F-104, but Russian planes are still beautiful ! You can't say that the Mig-15 or the Su-27 are not beautiful (I prefer the Su-27 over the Mig-29...), the new Su 57 is not bad too, the planes of the 50s-60s have a strange style with their nasal air intakes, but they are thin, it gives them a style.
@CharlesDeGaulle hmmm... I think they're rather ugly, in a beautiful sort of way. Let's face it; the Su-7 is a glorified stovepipe with wings. On top of that, the Soviet rule for "flush rivets" was that they shouldn't stick out more than 2 centimeter or so ;) difficult to emulate in SP, but still...
This plane is beautiful, like most Soviet cold war planes.
@ShootsPlanes How does this look like a MiG-21..?
Swept wing mig 21 moment
@ChiChiWerx yes, interesting indeed. The Su-11 is a different kettle of fish (hehe) of course, being a delta-winged interceptor. Still, the planes are related... and I did plan to make a Su-9 and Su-11 as well. So we should compare, by all means!
@ChiChiWerx Sukhoi interceptor gang
Ooooh the Syrian Air Force one looks cool
So, this one is highly similar to my Fishpot, so it’s interesting to see the build choices made by another good builder. Would love the opportunity to go over several of these differences and even do a direct comparison between our builds.
