           Boeing B-29 Superfortress

The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is a four-engine propeller- driven military aircraft that was used as a bomber during World War II, the Korean War and also in the Cold war, by the United States Air Force.

It was also the plane that carried the atomic bombs for the attack on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki .

The Boeing B-29 was the largest aircraft in service during World War II, when 50,000 workers worked on its development project and each unit cost one million dollars . It was considered advanced compared to other bombers of the time, featuring innovations such as a pressurized cabin , a central fire control system, and remote- controlled machine guns .

Although developed as a high-altitude day bomber, in practice it performed more low-altitude night incendiary missions. The Soviet Tupolev Tu-4 bomber was reverse-engineered from the B-29.

By the time of its retirement in the late 1960s, 3,970 B-29s had been built.
