In 1984, the former Soviet Union revealed for the first time that the newly developed short-haul landing transport aircraft, the An-74, had been manufactured by the Antonov Design Bureau. The aircraft is mainly used in the North and South Arctic regions. It is equipped with wheels with sleepers and can land on ice and snow. It is an all-weather aircraft equipped with the latest radio navigation equipment and an ice proof system on the front of the wing and tail. In the North and South, it can be used to help establish scientific research stations, AirDrop supplies and equipment for scientific expeditions, and detect changes in the ice.
