Northrop YB-35

The Northrop YB-35 is a flying wing strategic bomber tested by the United States Air Force for a request for proposal that led to fruition of the type and the conventional Convair B-36. While being radical, it suffered from technological problems due to its advanced design and never reached service
phase.

Lore
In 1941, the USAAF started a request for proposal for a bomber that can reach intercontinental - in other words, ranges beyond the flight path of transatlantic aircraft with a mission to deliver sizable amounts of ordnance to bomb Nazi Germany and its allies. Initiated in parallel to the Superbomber program (that will lead to the Boeing 345/B-29 and Consolidated B-32), main tenders from Boeing (as the model 363, which is the largest), Consolidated Model 35 (that will lead to the B-36 with a flying-wing proposal) and Northrop was submitted.

Flight behavior and how to fly
The wing is supported with so-called decelerons, which developed itself by Northrop in the 1940's. It does yaw control automatically so yawing can be disregarded in exchange for long bombing runs and landing approaches. The flaps is also a problem as it tends to pitch up when both flaps and pitch are pulled.
The Flying Wing enjoys flying at high altitudes - beyond most FlaK and most piston enemy aircraft cannot intercept.

Enemies worth noting
For its timeframe, expect getting catched up by:
• Gloster Meteor — despite little chances, it can intercept the bomber if flown at lower altitudes.
• Republic F-84 — can intercept the wing, but due to its fighter bomber role it might not be used otherwise
• Supermarine Attacker — can fully intercept as its speer and ceiling can go above it.
