The P-46 Startobolt is a high altitude Turbo-supercharger radial engine fighter. The design of the aircraft is rather unique, as to balance the aircraft the Turbo-supercharger is mounted behind the cockpit and on the belly. the partally exposed mounting was designed for cooling when it was in use. A 1200HP double row radial is boosted up to over 1600HP by the turbo-super being fitted to the aircraft, giving the P-46 its superb speed even at high altitude. Because of the large volume being taken up in the fuslage, the fuel load is limited to only 234 gallons. The offensive firepower of the P-46 consists of six .50 caliber machine guns, with two pairs in the wings and two on top of the engine in the fuslage. Due to the heavy weight of the Turbo-supercharger, and the overbuilt airframe, the weight fully loaded is over 10,000 pounds. While the speed of the Stratobolt is exceptional, her turn rate is reduced.
