Tupolev Tu-104-Nk-12 (semi-fictional turboprop version)

13.8k vonhubert  6.4 years ago

Another not uploaded model. This is a partly fictional model of tu-104, as a later commuter derivative with tu-95 nk-12 engines for greater economy and better short-field performance. Such a project is based on tu-16 (which shared a wing with tu-104) unbuilt turboprop derivative, so such a modification of tu-104 might have appeared in late 60s. Though i have updated it with spoilers from my previous tu-104d-3 and an agjustable horisontal stabilizer (two main drawbacks of an original Tu-104).

This is a complete update of my previous planes controls, as i made a new system of controlling the spoilers. Now they have two predefined positions as inflight airbrakes (at AG3 with stabilizer control tuned to compensate pitch up more or less automatically) and ground spoilers (mated with thrust reversers at AG1)

Warning! Turboprops are pitch controlled! Thrust controlls the propeller pitch with engine governor maintaining the engine RPM. This way it is on nk-12 turboprops from tu-95 and tu-114. Thus:
1) Below 20% thrust they essentially work as VERY powerful airbrakes. Never drop below 35% thrust inflight unless you need to drop speed fast.
2) optimal thrust for cruise flight - 70-75% at 28 000 ft.
3) optimal thrust for take off and low altitude - 90-100%

Controls
G - Landing gear;
AG1 -Ground Spoilers - spoilets simultaneously deploy full and underfuselage airbrake is retracted (if it is deployed by AG3 before). Use after touching down.
AG2 + VTOL slider - Flaps; (0% = Flaps retracted, 50% DOWN = takeoff position 100% DOWN = landing position)
AG3 - inflight airbrakes - activates spoilers on wings on half elevation + under fuselage spoiler. If AG1 activated after AG-3 - it retracts airbrake below fuselage and deploys all wing spoilers full.
AG4 - Aileron trim (VTOL Up- roll left, Down - right). If AG 7 is active (directional autopilot) - it also activates a gyro roll controll with VTOL for gentle turns
AG6 - Landing. Lights;
AG7 - Ascend autopilot (Activate and set trim for ascend/descend. Can turn gently, than stabilizes
AG8 - Ground steering (sensitivity adjustment, when AG8 deactivated - steers to the limit, when activated - steers 5 degrees) Positions - AG8 - ON on Take off/Landing/In flight, AG8 OFF for the ground movements

Approach with full flaps at 40% thrust.

    @Sonicandknuckles @F104Deathtrap @BaconEggs Thanks a lot! Don't promise to be too active though... having hard time with my job and lots of personal problems, including some time consuming legal actions due to a car accident with my new car...

    If you liked this one, take a look at my last VIP plane, gonna be my best 100%. Its a Tupolev Tu-114 (tu-95 wings with wide pressurised passenger fuselage and slightly increased wing area), the biggest, most luxurious and longest range airliner before 747. Also - the fastest mass produced propeller airplane in the world (870 KPH) flying more or less the same speed as modern jetliners (contemporary 1960s jetliners tended to be a nbit faster at 850-950 kph)
    I also think that it is the most elegant and handsome airliner ever build - like Lockheed Constellation meets modern jet.
    it is completely finished regarding the flight model, wing structure is extremely complex - it is very flexible but to make it flex right - it is full of invisible joints that connect different parts of the wing between themselves and to different points on the fuselage. Flies extremely well, but there is still a lot to make regarding fuselage, cockpit and landing gear.

    Nice seeing from you again
    This is the quality of planes I like to see. Flies right, looks awesome, and is intuitive and fun to fly.
