Ryan Aeronautical showed their mixed-power fighter doctrine with the earlier FR Fireball naval aircraft that came too late for the Japan theater, and its possible use on mainland evasion. Having a maximum speed of about 660, km/h on both engines, Ryan improved the design into a turboprop-powered aircraft, the XF2R Dark Shark. Featuring a new turboprop and turbojet, combined operations can harness its potential. However, it was soon outclassed by pure turbojets and the project was cancelled.
