American Captured German Corsair (VR cockpit)
After D-Day, many German Corsairs were captured by the Allied Forces. What was once a scourge to the skies over Europe, was soon retrofitted by American forces to use in the Pacific Theature as a bomber escort and torpedo bomber. In addition to a new Pratt n Whitneyy R2801 Triple-Wasp engine, the German Corsairs were also outfitted with the new invention of Air Brakes. A new bubble canopy allowed improved visibility for the pilots and more headroom for long escort flights. The Arresting Hook used for landing on short German airfields, was retrofitted and replaced with an Arresting Hook, used for landing on aircraft carriers. Finally, Drop tanks were added to increase the range. Sporting a new Green paint job covered in Black and White stripes to match the natural green with black and white striped hue of the Pacific Ocean, the American German Corsair was nearly invisible to its rival fighter, the Mitsubishi Ecplise Turbo!
