Pfalz Dr.I

2,113 Turdy1  8.0 years ago

With The appearance of the nimble Sopwith Triplane, Germany urged its aircraft designers to develop triplanes of their own. The most famous result was the Fokker Dr.I, but another company also developed a triplane. The Pfalz Dr.I made use of an unusual wing layout, but still boasted the best climb rate of any German aircraft of the war. An unreliable bi-rotary engine, combined with less than acceptable performance, meant only 10 pre-production examples would ever be built.
