XRS.2 jet interceptor

839 Sofa  8.7 years ago

The XRS.2 - debuted in the civilian world as the SuperBullet racer - was originally devised as a short-range, rocket-powered interceptor, but its solid-fuel rocket propulsion would later be traded for jets. A light fuel load grants it enough range to reach altitude and deliver air-to-air rockets against incoming bombers. An optional drop-tank beneath the fuselage can slightly augment that range. A single prototype was built, but never entered service.
