The howitzer used a High Explosive 250mm Shell despite being quite a small gun, giving it the nickname of "Il Davide" referring to David and Goliath .
Modello Bettini was the designation of any Howitzer over 200mm which had manual breech-loading and road-going wheels.
Used profusely in the First World War, it made various appearances in the Austrohungar-Italo front. The 250 was issued to 38° Mountain Artillery division , the 52° Field Artillery division and the 3° Motorized Riflemen division.
