KSS Hoffnorden ("Royal Sovereign Ship Hoffnorden") was the lead ship of the six-vessel Hoffnorden class of protected cruisers, built for the Sovereignian Königliche Marine (Royal Navy) in 1814. She and her sister ships were ordered under the Ausbau und Experiment der Marine Law which helped the Sovereign Navy in experimenting new warships in the beginning of Naval Steel Warfare Theory. The design of Hoffnorden class were derived from the earlier Erwin Friedrich III class, utilizing a larger hull that allowed for new boilers that increased speed, but at the cost of armor reduction.

Hoffnorden serve for the Sovereign Navy for 27 years before getting decommissioned in 1843. She was recommissioned in November 8 1905, 3 days after the Civil War broke out. She was eventually sunk at the Battle of River Equestria.

History

As part of Admiralty's experiment in new warships, Cruisers became their main aspect for expanding the fleet. The three armoured cruiser classes (Elite, Vulturia and Erwin Friedrich III) were championed as the main cruiser design for the future cruisers of the Navy. However, as much as they want these fast armoured ships, They realize that ships similar their size but different in configuration can outrun them. This made way to designers to design the first Protected Cruisers of the Navy, the Hoffnorden-class.
