Aerotech-Bandit Surveyor 2
All credit to DragonAerotech for the inspiration. Aerotech, a firm from the State of Dragon, developed an excellent aircraft known as the A-8 Carnivore. The Pilotmarian Army and Coast Guard was impressed by the aircraft, but the Air Force had no interest in the type beyond evaluation purposes, feeling the role of close-air support was adequately covered by Pummelers and Boars.
However, the Army and Coast Guard had different sets of requirements. The Army wanted an armed, fixed-wing observation aircraft to operate on rough runways in support of Army forces, as existing helicopters were unsited for the task. The Coast Gaurd wanted a medium-range two-seat search and rescue aircraft to replace their aging Twin Pummelers. The Air Force wholeheartedly blocked the aircraft from adoption, as they were well-connected with Pilotmario Defense Industries (PDI) and Kuat-Rodmantown Industrial Engineering Group (KRIEG), and feared that the introduction of a foreign type would threaten their duopoly as the supplier of the Pilotmario Military, as it would give Aerotech credibility.
Bandit and Aerotech decided to create a partnership and built an aircraft based on the original Carnivore, except with various improvements. They also marketed both the improved type as well as license-built versions of the type as a civilian aircraft named the Surveyor 1 and the Surveyor 2, respectively in order to get around the Air Force. Through this, the Army and the Coast Guard purchased the aircraft for "training purposes", and issued them as they truly intended, forming whole "training" units. When they were forced to reveal their scheme, the Air Force reluctantly gave way to the Army and the Coast Guard, as these aircraft were powerful additions to their force and have proved their effectiveness. In a last-ditch effort, KRIEG and PDI attempted to purchase rights to the aircraft, but Aerotech and Bandit refused to budge. Knowing that they could not defeat Bandit in a legal battle, they relented. The aircraft was type-classified as Surveryor Scout Mk 1 and Mk 2, respectively.
