M10 “Achilles”
The British "Achilles" tank destroyer during World War II is a famous tank destroyer modified from the American M10A1 "Wolverine" tank destroyer (chassis are M4 Sherman tank series), and the M36 "Jackson" tank destroyer also modified from the M10A1 is a "blood" tank. The "Achilles" tank destroyer was built on the basis of the M10A1 with a British-built 17-pounder anti-tank gun. Although the caliber of the gun was still 76 mm, the armor-piercing power was increased due to the lengthening of the barrel. After the gun change, the "Achilles" became the twin of the "Firefly" tank. The "Achilles" muzzle brake has become its most important external identification feature. In addition, a round casing is added to the rear of the muzzle brake, which mainly plays a counterweight role, and it is also a very important external feature of the Achilles. The British Army converted two-thirds of the M10A1s into "Achilles", a total of 1,017, which were widely used in Europe in the late Second World War.
