Pyotr Velikiy (Russian: ??????) is the fourth Kirov-class battleship of the Russian Navy. Originally named Yuri Andropov (Russian: ????) after Yuri Andropov, former General Secretary of the Communist Party, the ship's name changed after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Russian designation for the type is "heavy missile cruiser", but Western defense commentators have again coined the term "battlecruiser" to describe this; largest surface combatant warship in the world. Pyotr Velikiy is the flagship of the Northern Fleet. Peter Velikiy in 2009 The ship's construction was heavily influenced by economic problems before and after the fall of the Soviet Union and it was not commissioned until 1996, ten years after work began. By then it had been renamed Pyotr Velikiy, Russian Peter the Great. Pyotr Velikiy has been known to carry two pennant numbers during his service; "183" and currently "099". in 2014 Pyotr Velikiy together with the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and the tankers Segey Osipov, Kama and Dubna; tugboat Altay, and landing support ship Minsk entered the English Channel to sail north. The British destroyer HMS Dragon monitors the task of the Russian group as it approaches the UK. After the ships saw each other they sailed for a while
