Designed in 1951 and commissioned in 1953, the AF-51 is a first-generation fighter jet capable of speeds of up to Mach 1.18 (900 mph) with medium sweep back angle wings. Fast, maneuverable and stable to drive, the AF-51 entered service in 1953 and was not fully retired until 1976. It is still in service with some national air forces, and its main purpose is to be modified as a trainer, target aircraft and ground attack aircraft.
